Oncology Services
What is veterinary oncology?
Veterinary oncology encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of pets with cancer. Our specialist veterinary oncologist can prescribe and administer chemotherapy and is able to facilitate referral for external beam therapy and treatment of thyroid carcinoma with radioactive iodine therapy. We are fortunate to have oncology as part of an integrated hospital including specialists in diagnostic imaging and surgery, so that our patients can receive comprehensive cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Common cancers in dogs and cats that are treated at VRH include lymphoma and leukemia, soft tissue sarcomas, osteosarcoma, mast cell tumour, haemangiosarcoma, and various carcinomas.
Our oncology services include:
- Diagnostic imaging – MRI, CT scan, ultrasound, radiography
- Procedures such as bone marrow aspiration and biopsy for diagnosis
- Chemotherapy preparation and administration
- Palliative care
